International Arts Village at Dapoli
The Jaipur Art Summit is setting up an International Arts Village in Dapoli, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, in its tenth year. The project kick starts with a stone carving sculpture camp, ‘Tone in Stone’ at Exotica Suvarna Samudra, Dapoli, from 27th March to 3rd April 2022.
Curated by Mumbai based Sculpture Artist Mahesh Anjarlekar and coordinated by Dr Amita Khare, the week-long camp will witness ten senior artists and ten scholars from all over India and neighbouring countries Nepal and Srilanka. The International Arts Village is set up to develop multi-art and cultural activities in the Ratnagiri district, otherwise famous for mangoes.
Shailendra Bhatt, Founder Director of Jaipur Art Summit, reveals, “The ‘Laterite Stone’ is native to this part of Maharashtra. Our focus is to start not only carving on laterite stone but also striding ahead to create a new vocabulary of global art for the Ratnagiri Region. Our effort is to explore this stone traditionally used for building purposes as a unique visual art medium.”
“An event of this scale will prove to be instrumental in giving global recognition to the Laterite stone, locally known as “Chira” here. Dapoli has an unrealised potential to become one of the top tourist destinations of India,” adds Rahul Hubba, Founder Exotica Suvarna Samudra and Sylvan Greens.
The highlight of this event is a grand closing ceremony on 3rd April 2022 that will include the Shilanayas of the International Arts Village, upcoming programs and the unveiling of the sculptures.
International artists from neighbouring countries gathered at the venue enthusiastically added their experiences. Srilankan artist Prasanna Dharmasri says, “I am eager to be a part of this sculpture camp and hope to stimulate a cultural exchange, which forms the basis for inspiring new art production and forging important links between India and Sri Lanka.”
“It was my dream to participate in the Jaipur Art Summit. I am sure Art Summit will go a long way in creating cultural awareness among the young Nepalese artistes,” says Thinley Dolma, the participating artist from Nepal.
Some prominent artists at the art rendezvous include Kiran Chopra, New Delhi, Prasanna Dhanasri, Sri Lanka, Amita Khare, Gwalior, Yogesh Prajapati, Barsana, UP, Gurmeet Goldie, Chandigarh, Thinley Dolma, Nepal, Dipika Das, Tripura, Hansraj Kumawat, Rajasthan, Kanti Parmar, Gujrat, Goverdhan Mandal, Jharkhand, Dharam Netam, Chhattisgarh, Suresh Kumbhkar from Chhattisgarh.
