Raise a glass of your favourite juniper-based spirit to welcome World Gin Day (WGD) on June 11, 2022. Celebrated to unite all the gin lovers across the globe, the day brings festivals and carnivals never seen before.

Did you know?

The beverage’s name comes from the French name for the juniper berry, genièvre, altered by the Dutch to genever and shortened by the English to gin. Its origin is attributed to Franciscus Sylvius, a 17th-century professor of medicine at the University of Leiden in Holland. He distilled the juniper berry with spirits to produce an inexpensive mixture with juniper berry oil’s diuretic properties. The beverage became popular and was introduced to England by soldiers from the Low countries (coastal region of north-western Europe, including Belgium, The Netherlands and Luxembourg).

Gin originated as a medicinal liquor made by monks and alchemists across Europe, particularly in southern Italy, Flanders and the Netherlands, to provide aqua vita from distillates of grapes and grains. Depending on how distilled and processed, it can take on many different strengths, tones and tastes. Gin’s flavour can also be easily transformed by adding various botanical infusions.

Gaining popularity and becoming a preference of the new-age consumers, the versatile drink has never left your side- a true companion in all the seasons.  With the summer heat scorching up, revamp, remix and kick back with a glass or two as you groove past all your blues and seize the moment!
