City Bus Service in Gurugram gets a makeover

Today the Board of Gurugram Metropolitan City Bus Services Pvt (GMCBL) Ltd. gave the go-ahead to start a unique bus service where commuters can book their rides through the Uber app. Sh. Sudhir Rajpal, CEO, GMDA & Chairperson, GMCBL, chaired the meeting. Smt. Anju Chaudhary, CEO of GMCBL, was present at the meeting.

This new bus service will initially run on a pilot basis for nine months, with two buses each plying on both the routes. The routes planned are: Badshahpur Bus Stand to Huda City Centre Metro Station (UP-Down) and BPTP Astaire Garden Sec-70 TO DLF Cyber Park Shankar Chowk (UP–Down). Under this unique arrangement, Uber will enable booking seats on the bus through its App, making it the first of its kind service in the country.

The timings for the buses on these routes will be morning 7 am till 12 noon and evening 3 pm till 8 pm. Each bus will do three round trips in the morning and three round trips in the evening. The frequency of the departures will be one hour, considering a two-hour turn-around time for each bus taking the total departures per day to 24 (12 departures per bus or six round trips per bus.)

Emphasizing the importance of tech-enabled services, CEO GMDA Sh. Sudhir Rajpal said, “This unique collaboration with UBER for reserving Seats in Gurugaman buses is a milestone for the public transport service in the city and the entire country. Enable reserving an assured seat via the Uber app will ease the commuters availing of the bus service. Additionally, fewer stops will enable residents to reach their destination faster. It is an initiative to encourage Gurugram residents to choose public transport, which will not just ease the overall traffic load on the road. Still, it is also a step forward for a cleaner environment.”

GMCBL currently operates 150 buses in the city, and an additional fleet of 100 buses is in procurement to enable better transport services in the city. All the buses are CCTV integrated and have online tracking systems, panic button & online payment facilities, among other key features to ensure the safety & convenience of passengers using the Gurugaman bus service.
