The Golf Federation of Haryana takes great pride in sharing with the media that Haryana emerged as one of the powerhouses in golf at the 36th National Games in Gujarat.
Held from October 6-9 at the Kensville Golf and Country Club in Ahmedabad, teams competed over four days in individual and group events.
Women Golf
In women, amateur golfer Lavanya Jadon (78, 74, 74, 78) and top lady professional Vani Kapoor 295 (75, 74, 75, 71) rallied brilliantly to claim the team silver with a cumulative score of 599, nine shots behind gold medal winners Karnataka. The bronze went to Punjab (601).
Vani’s sub-par final round also lifted her to the individual bronze after a countback with teammate Gaurika Bishnoi 295 (73, 74, 77, 71). The gold went to Karnataka’s Avani Prashanth (288), and the silver to Punjab’s Amandeep Kaur (292).
Men Golf
In men, Abhinav Lohan 277 (68, 66, 72, 71), a leading name on the Professional Golf Tour of India, spearheaded Haryana’s charge. Teaming up with top amateur Tushar Pannu (75, 80, 75, 76), the team was unlucky to miss out on bronze by a shot. Finishing at a four-day team total of 583, Haryana lost out to Delhi (582). The gold and silver went to Chandigarh (571) and Karnataka (581), respectively.
Abhinav’s score of 277 also got him the individual silver behind Chandigarh’s Karandeep Kochhar (267). Another Haryana athlete made the podium with young pro-Sunhit Bishnoi settling for bronze with a four-day score of 281 (73, 69, 69, 70).
